SALT LAKE CITY – Utah head golf coach
Garrett Clegg has signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Jesper von Reedtz (Täby, Sweden) and Javier Barcos (Estella, Spain) will join the Utes for the 2019-20 season while Zack Neff (Salt Lake City) will come to Utah after serving a mission.
"This is a strong class and I expect Jesper and Javier to come in ready to compete next year and challenge for playing time," Clegg said. "Their signing will give us four international players next year. It will be fun to see how they adjust to living here and competing in college golf. We are also thrilled to sign Zack. Our goal is to identify and sign the most talented players in the state for our program. We feel like we improved our short game with this class. As our program has continued to improve, our recruiting classes have improved and these guys are great players. I'd also like to thank [assistant coach]
Chance Cain for his hard work in our recruiting efforts."
Reedtz won the Swedish Teen Tour Elite #2 in June. He helped Sweden finish third at the 2018 European Boys Team Championship. Reedtz won the 2018 Capital Junior Open at Huvudstaden. He earned 10 top-10 finishes worldwide in 2018.
"Jesper is a controlled golfer who relies on a great short game," Clegg said. "His strength is his chipping, putting and wedge game. He had a great season this year, playing really well in the European Boys Team Championships as well in major junior golf events throughout Europe."
Barcos is ranked third in the Spain U18 rankings. He placed 17
th at the 2018 Boys Amateur Championship, tied for fifth at the 2018 Spanish International U18 Stroke Play Championship and finished 17
th at the 2018 Copa Andalucia. Barcos attends the Blume National Golf School in León and was named Player of the Term for the first trimester of 2017-18.
"Javier caught our attention at the British Boys [Boys Amateur] Championship," Clegg said. "He is a great competitor and is quickly moving up the ranks in Spanish junior golf. He is a controlled golfer with a spectacular golf swing and has an exceptional short game. His trajectory and ball control is phenomenal."
Neff won back-to-back Utah 5A State Championships at Olympus High School in 2017 and 2018. Olympus won the team title in 2017 and finished third in 2018. Neff won the 2018 FCG Johnny Miller Utah Championship with a final round of 64. He finished ninth in stroke play at the 2018 Utah State Amateur.
"Zack is a die-hard Ute and we are thrilled he has decided to sign with us," Clegg said. "He is probably one of the best putters we have recruited. Each year his golf game has progressed tremendously. He burst onto the Utah junior golf scene this year and has succeeded in key moments. He has the ability to shoot really low scores because he makes a lot of putts in pressure situations."
