LIVERPOOL, UK – Utah women's cross country team member
Poppy Tank has been named to the United Kingdom Under 23 cross country team after competing in the Liverpool Cross Challenge this past Saturday. This competition served as the qualifying meet for the U23 team, which will represent the UK at the European cross country championships.
Tank, who is a Junior for the Ute cross country team, finished in 19th-place overall with a five-mile time of 27:18. She was 19th out of 311 total competitors, while finishing second among 30 different competitors in her age group (F23). With the second-place finish, Tank secured one of four automatic places for the UK U23 cross country team that will compete at the 2018 SPAR European Cross Country Championships. The European Championships will take place in Tilburg, Netherlands, on Sunday, Dec. 9, and the event will mark the 25th edition of the cross country running competition for European Athletics.
"This is a terrific accomplishment for Poppy," said Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler. "Anytime you get to represent your country, it is very special and involves significant effort. With this being Poppy's first time representing her homeland I know she is very excited. We'll help her prepare for another well-executed race in early December."
