Utes Wrap Up Second Day at Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Utah men's team completed their second day of action at the Gopher Invitational earlier today.

In the Gold Singles bracket, Dan Little was the sole Ute to earn a win. He was able to defeat Mattia Ros from Denver 6-7, 6-3, 1-0(4), and will play against Northwestern's Ben Vandixhorn in round three.

In the Maroon Team Draw, Slava Shainyan and R.J. Parker were victorious against Huynh and Castellino from Denver with a score of 2-1. Then in the semi-finals, Shainyan and Parker were unable to advance as they fell to Spanjaard and Tuff from DePaul, 2-1. Shainyan and Parker will play against Pickens and Fasano from Northwestern for third place tomorrow in the Maroon Team Draw.

Chase Stoner and Paul McCallie carded a victory against V. Moreno and A. Moreno from Nebraska due to an Illness, and will face off against Marquette's Greg Anderson and Fran San Andres in round four of singles.

Then in the second round of Maroon Singles, Shainyan beat out Denver's Sean Huynh 6-4, 7-5, and Parker defeated Ignatius Castelino from Denver with a score of 6-2, 7-5. In the third round of Maroon Singles, Shainyan came away with another victory against Boris Spanjaard from DePaul, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4. McCallie also came away with a win in round three, knocking off Alvaro Moreno with a score of 6-4, 6-1. Shainyan will match up against Trice Pickens tomorrow in the fourth round of Maroon Singles, with McCallie playing against Fran San Andreas from Marquette.
