Utes Conclude Action at Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Utah men's tennis team has wrapped up their final day of action at the Gopher Invitational, which was hosted by the University of Minnesota.

In the Gold Team Draw, the duo of Randy Cory and Russell Benkaim were able to card a sixth-place finish. In the fifth-place bracket, they first squared off against Martin and Ross from Dartmouth, coming away with a 2-1 victory. In the final round for fifth place, they then fell short to Horneffer and Conklin from Dartmouth 2-1.

Then in the Gold Singles, Benkaim was victorious against Casey Ross from Dartmouth, as he came out on top with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 1-0. Dan Little then pitched in a win of his own against Northwestern's Ben Vandixhorn, with a 6-1, 6-3, victory.

With the highest finish of the day, Slava Shainyan and R.J. Parker were able to finish in fourth place in the Maroon Team Draw bracket. They competed in the Maroon Team Draw 3^rdplace bracket, but fell short to Northwestern's Pickens and Fasano with a final score of 3-0, to place fourth overall.

With the final win of the day, Paul McCallie bested Fran San Andres from Marquette in the Maroon Singles bracket, coming away with a 6-3, 0-6, 10-8, victory for the Utes.

The Utah men's tennis team will be back in action next week, as they will travel to Los Angeles, California, for the LMU Invitational. The LMU Invitational will take place Nov. 9-11.
