SAN FRANCISCO – University of Utah forward
Andrea Torres has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, it was announced today, giving Utah its sixth player of the week honor this season.Â
Torres joins
Dre'Una Edwards (three freshman of the week honors),
Dru Gylten (one freshman of the week honor) and
Megan Huff (one player of the week honor) who have all been honored by the conference this year.Â
Torres was on fire in Utah's Pac-12 opener, scoring a team-high 18 points in just 20 minutes to push the Utes past Colorado, 76-61. She tallied a career-high seven field goals against the Buffaloes while netting 15 of her 18 points in the second half.Â
She scored a career-best 64-percent from the floor that included going 4-of-7 from the three-point line. She also pitched in a career-high three assists in the game.Â
Torres and the Utes will return to action on Friday, Jan. 4 when they host the Arizona State Sun Devils. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. MT in the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Pac-12 Networks.Â
