COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Utah Softball ran its winning streak to seven with a 4-1 win over Jacksonville this morning.
Hailey Hilburn finished the weekend batting .533 (8-for-15) and scored six runs to pace the team.
Alyssa Palacios drove in five runs over five games after entering the weekend with just one driven in.
Kelly Martinez hit .467 (7-for-15) and slugged 1.000 for the Utes.
Katie Donovan worked her way out of a first-inning jam as she induced a pair of pop up's to
Abby Robertson at shortstop with runners on the corners. The senior hurler went five innings to get the win and improve to 9-1 this season.
Utah had a chance to go ahead in the second when
Kelly Martinez singled and Robertson walked but a strikeout and ground ball ended the threat.
The Utes finally broke through in the fourth as the first four batters reached base.
Heather Bowen and Martinez singled before Hilburn doubled to open the scoring. Robertson singled to add another before an
Alyssa Palacios sacrifice fly made it 3-0.
Serena Quinata got Jacksonville on the board with a solo homer in the fifth off Donovan.
Utah's final run scored in the sixth. Hilburn singled, Palacios walked and
Ally Dickman was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Chandler Walter drew a free pass to plate the final tally of the contest.
Miranda Viramontes struck out the side in the sixth to earn her fourth save as the game was called due to time constraints. Utah pitchers combined to strike out 53 batters in just 33 innings.
Utah opens Pac-12 play next week at No. 9 Arizona. The opener is at 7 p.m. AT on Friday with the following games scheduled for 7 p.m. AT on Saturday at 12 p.m. AT on Sunday. You can catch all the games live on the Pac-12 Networks.
