UtahUtes.com sat down with senior linebacker Chase Hansen for a round of 20 questions.Â
Q: When did you start playing football and why did you get involved with the sport?
A: I started playing football as soon as I possibly could. I played flag until I could play in the tackling leagues and even tried to play up in those leagues but that wasn't allowed. Even before that, me and my brothers played backyard football religiously all growing up.Â
Q: With some of your family playing football at BYU, why was Utah the right fit for you?
A: Utah just felt right for me. I didn't know hardly a soul that was here, didn't know any of the players, and everyone one in my family and all my friends went to BYU. But it felt like a great opportunity to play big time football, be a part of a great program with great coaches, and to trust what felt like the right choice.Â
Q: After starting out as a quarterback, what was the transition like to full time defense?
A: The transition was pretty natural. I played plenty of defense in high school and always loved to hit so it worked out pretty well. Plus most schools recruited me for defense anyway.Â
Q: What kinds of things do you think you'll be able to bring as a linebacker this year?
A: I feel like I'll bring good athleticism to the position of linebacker and can use my knowledge of the game as well. I've always prided myself on having a great motor as well so hopefully that will help.Â
Q: Heading into your senior year, what kind of things on and off the field do you hope to accomplish?
A: I hope to win the Pac-12 this year. That's my main goal on the field. And off the field I hope to be the best leader I can be.Â
Q: If you weren't going to play professional football, what would you want to do for a career and why?
A: I'd probably be a pro tennis player. I'm not even good, but I think it'd be a lot of fun. Or a musician, not a musician either, but performing would be cool. But realistically probably work in real estate.Â
Q: Who is your biggest influence in your life and why?
A: My parents are definitely my biggest influence purely because of the examples they've been to me.Â
Q: What are you looking forward to most this season?
A: I'm most looking forward to playing with all my boys in Rice-Eccles one last go around.Â
Q: What is your favorite part about playing football at Utah?
A: Apart from the friendships I'm able to build with my teammates, my favorite part about being a Utah football player is the crowd.
Q: If you could give your freshman self advice, what would it be?
A: I'd tell the freshman to stay true to themselves. Work hard and allow the program to mold you into a man that knows how to work and sacrifice for the team, but hold onto what makes you you. Don't conform for others.
Q: What is your favorite place to eat in Salt Lake City?
A: My favorite place to eat is this place that serves ramen, and I love ramen. It's called East West Connection.Â
Q: What is the last song you listened to?
A: Last song I listened to is "Written in the Sand" by Old Dominion.
Q: If you would have a super power, what would it be?Â
A: I wish I could teleport.Â
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: My hidden talent is singing even though none of my teammates, family or friends will admit it.Â
Q: If you were drafting a team for a pick-up football game, which current coach would you draft first?
A: I'd draft Coach Scalley, but don't let him know that.Â
Q: What is your favorite team in the NFL?
A: Broncos.
Q: What would you do with the money if you won the lottery?
A: I'd invest most of it then travel with the rest of it.Â
Q: If you could take three things with you to a desert island, what would they be?
A: I'd take an endless supply of dip n' dots, a keyboard, and maybe a journal, and a but-load of pens.Â
