SKOPJE, Macedonia – Utah Cross Country was well represented at the 2018 European Mountain Running Championships in Skopje, Macadonia, as a pair of Utes finished among the top-15 finishers this weekend.
Former Ute, Geselle Slotboom, finished 11th overall in the senior women's 11K race. Slotboom, who ran track and cross country for the Utes from 2012-16, finished the event in a time of 58:16. The Sassenheim, Netherlands, native was just six seconds off the pace of finishing among the top-10 overall.
Slotboom, who was one of 68 total entries this past weekend, also finished in sixth place at the Dutch National Championships this past month, finishing the 5K event in a time of 16:29.92.
Incoming Utah runner, Scarlet Dale, who hails from Lancashire, England, finished third overall in the U20 women's 6K event. She finished the race in 30:30, just one minute behind first place and a total of six seconds behind second place.
Dale, who was one of 43 entries in the U20 women's race this past weekend, came in third place at the ECCA U20 Saucony English National Cross Country Championships back in February. She was one of 146 competitors, finishing the 6K event with a time of 25:21, while also helping her team finish in second place overall, just one point behind Italy, who took home the championship.
"We are thrilled to see two Utes competing so well, in such a demanding event and on the international stage," said Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler. "Giselle was a big contributor in building our Utah program into what it is today and Scarlet represents the next chapter in our story. We could not be more proud of these two women."
