SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced today it is awarding postgraduate scholarships to two former Utes: women's basketball player Tanaeya BoClair and football tight end Ken Hampel.
The Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarship Program was created in 1999 to honor and provide assistance for graduate study to outstanding student-athletes from its member institutions who also are outstanding scholars.
Each year, the conference awards 24 scholarships of $9,000 each to student-athletes who have excelled academically and athletically, have completed their intercollegiate athletics eligibility, and have been accepted into a program of postgraduate study. Each Pac-12 institution selects two current or former student-athletes, one man and one woman, through its institutional selection process.
BoClair finished her degree in exercise sports science in 2018 and will pursue her master's in educational leadership and policy at Utah starting this fall. Hampel, who graduated with a degree in math and financial planning in 2016, will enter the Utah School of Business.
BoClair played in 125 games (98 starts) for the Utah women's basketball team from 2014-2018, joining the 1,000-career point club as a senior. The San Antonio, Texas, native was one of the most consistent players on and off the court as a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection.
Hampel was also a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree and was a regular on the Dean's List. Hampel, who came to Utah from Mountain View, Calif., had a standout senior season in 2016, playing in all 13 games with three starts at tight end.
Both BoClair and Hampel were chosen for the postgraduate scholarship after meeting qualifications such as holding a 3.00 or higher cumulative GPA, performing with distinction as a member of a varsity team, and exemplifying behavior in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics.
