Camp Kyle Starts Wednesday
Wednesday, Aug. 1 marks the start of Utah's preseason football camp—the 14th under head coach Kyle Whittingham. Over the course of camp from Aug. 1-18, the Utes will hold 16 practices on weekdays and Saturdays. Fall camp is closed to the public. The media may observe the final 20 minutes of practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. See sidebar for complete camp schedule and media policies.

Utah, which was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 South Division in the annual media poll, is ranked No. 22 in Phil Steele's preseason poll … During the five-day NCAA mandatory acclimatization period, the Utes will practice in shorts, jerseys and helmets on the first two days, adding shoulder pads on Friday and Saturday … In addition to on-field practices, the players will lift once a week as members of one of three groups: skill (wide receivers, defensive backs and quarterbacks), big skill (running backs, tight ends, linebackers and specialists) and giant skill (offensive and defensive lines) … Closed scrimmages will be held on two Saturdays (Aug. 11 and 18) in Rice-Eccles Stadium … Single game tickets for the 2018 season will go on sale to the general public on Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Rice-Eccles Stadium box office, 801-581-UTIX and UtahTickets.com.

The NCAA has increased the number of players allowed to participate in preseason camp from 105 to 110. Utah's initial 110 includes 85 scholarship players … Utah has just 12 seniors on its roster (11 on scholarship), which is tied for the fifth fewest seniors in the nation and the second fewest in the Pac-12 (Oregon 11) … Utah's preseason depth chart will not be updated during fall camp. The next depth chart will come out on Aug. 27 … Wide receiver Derrick Vickers of Bakersfield College has completed academic requirements and will be with the team for the start of camp. Vickers was a two-time first-team All-American (all-purpose 2014 and 2016). He redshirted in 2015 and did not play in 2017 … Freshman Maddie Golden from Piedmont, S.C. (Powdersville HS) has joined the Utes as a scholarship snapper … Senior linebacker Chase Hansen has been named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list. The Wuerffel Trophy is the sport's top award for community service.
