2018 Camp Kyle: Nine Practices Down

SALT LAKE CITY – It was a hot and steamy day out at the Eccles Football Center for the ninth practice of football fall camp, but that didn't stop the Utes from having fun and hitting the ground running.Â
With another day of camp comes another episode of "Real Talk with Reggie" where former Ute Reggie Dunn interviews players for his weekly show.Â

Fall camp isn't always about practice though with the players and staff heading out for a dinner and a movie on Tuesday night after practice. Britain Covey took over the Utah Football Instagram account to document the night.Â

On being back with the Utes this season…
"It has been great. A lot has changed since the last time I was here and it has been for the good. The student-athletes as a whole do a good job at understanding that they are lucky to have what they have and I am lucky to be around them. Coaching for me has always been about the kids and it always will be. All of the other outside stuff is what it is. Coach Whittingham has a great group of kids here and it's been great being in their lives. It has been a great homecoming on and off the field."
On his relationship with Kyle Whittingham over the years and what it means to him…
"It is great. We have been through a lot in 30 odd years now. A lot of times we've been together and some of that time we've been apart, but obviously we are extremely close. We grew up in this together all the way back to the Idaho State days. That is where we learned our values and our beliefs and our understanding on how this process should be."
With Utah football's season quickly approaching, there are some former Utes starting their seasons in the NFL this week with preseason action.Â

On how he thinks things are going so far…
"Pretty good. We are going to find out a lot more at the scrimmage tomorrow since we have had zero live work up until this point. Tomorrow we will get a good gauge on what our problems are and what we are good at."
On what he wants to take away from the scrimmage tomorrow…
"To see who is going to make plays, specifically the younger guys that we don't know a lot about yet. I will watch the execution level on offense and how we tackle on defense, pretty much I'll be watching everything."Â
On the tight ends and how they are competing this fall…
"Yeah their role will be as big as their playmaking ability allows them to be. Nobody is going to get on the field just because. If they can make plays and add to what we are doing, then they will be on the field. If they don't want to add to what we are doing, then they won't play at all. This tight end group is the best depth we've ever had at that position."Â

Media Observation Highlights…
- Tyler Huntley utilized his speed at practice today, still showing he has that dual threat ability.Â
- Josh Nurse was consistent on deep coverage, including a big pass breakup on the sideline.Â
- Demari Simpkins showed off his athleticism with a 20-yard touchdown catch at the very back of the end zone and was able to keep his toes in-bounds.Â
- Jason Shelley hit Bronson Boyd for a 15-yard touchdown on a loft pass.Â
