News Out Of Practice: School Is In Session

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah football program took another step towards its season opener against Weber State on Aug. 30 today as fall classes officially got underway.Â

Kyle Whittingham on the first day of regular season practice…
"It was good. We are in regular season mode now. School started today, so that was a big change for our guys as far as the routine they've been in for the last three weeks. It was a good practice today with no lack of attention, so I thought it was good."

The Utes just wrapped up fall camp on Saturday with its final scrimmage. Along with fall camp ending, the Utes also added a few newcomers to the roster, bringing the total to 126.Â
Whittingham on the last scrimmage…
"It was good. It was about the same model as what we did the week before as far as length and situations that we covered. We came out of it clean, which is one of the number one objectives. The ones didn't get a whole lot of live work, the twos got all live work, same with the threes. We wanted to make sure that we got out of that as healthy as possible and we accomplished that."

Tyler Huntley: Voices From Practice
On if he feels the team is ready for the season opener…
"Definitely. That is what we prepare for all spring, summer and in fall camp. All of our work is about to come into play."
On if it feels different this year having a year starting under his belt…
"I don't feel like anything is necessarily different, I've just grown as a quarterback and a person. I think my mindset is a little bit different, but I am going into this season as focused as I was last year."
On trying to take fewer hits in games this year…
"Yeah, we've been working on that and working on my slide. Just being better about protecting my body."
On how he feels about the offense as a whole this year…
"Our players are trusting each other and we are all going out and trying to execute the play. We are just an older team this year. We know that we can't make as many mistakes as we made when we were younger."
