2018 Camp Kyle: Utes Wrap Up Practice #5

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utes officially entered the second week of fall camp today with its fifth practice, showcasing its first full day in pads.Â
With pads on and the energy high, the Utes were quick to bring out the always exciting Circle Drill.Â

Head Coach Kyle Whittingham's thoughts on practice…

On Bryant Pirtle joining camp…
"That is a big positive. He got here Saturday and he is ready to go. There is an acclimatization period that he has to go through so he won't be able to put pads on until tomorrow, but it is great to have him here."
On Devonta'e Henry-Cole…
"On the down side, Devonta'e Henry-Cole is out for the year with an arm injury. It was pre-existing, but it was just something that hasn't healed like we hoped. It required surgery, so we are going to miss him this year."Â
On his thoughts on the first week of practice…
"We are doing very good. We are in a good spot right now, but we are only four days in. There has been a lot of progress and very few mental mistakes."
On Siaosi Mariner…
"He is doing great. He is one of the leaders in that receiver group along with Britain Covey and Demari Simpkins. The whole group is really working hard. We have a lot of athleticism in that group and now we just have to get the results."
On Mariner getting more playing time this year with a bigger role…
"He has been around, but it is his time to step it up and make a bigger impact. He is aware of that and he knows the expectations, so we will see what happens."
On Solomon Enis's progress so far…
"He just has this natural ability. He has great size. He's nearly 6-3 and 200-plus pounds. He is long and has great speed. He is extremely fluid, which is probably one of his biggest assets. He is moving faster than it looks. He is also great on the deep ball and is able to adjust."
On how much he thinks Tyler Huntley has improved his passing from last year…
"Dramatically. He is better in all areas. One thing we haven't quite gotten him where we want is on his size, but he is working hard. It isn't anything he is doing, some guys just have a harder time putting on weight than others. But as far has his decision making goes with the throw and run game, he has been very good. The biggest thing is making sure he avoids hits. It is something we stress every single day in practice."

- Tré Strong was providing strong presence over the middle for the defensive backs during offense vs. defense.Â
- Jack Tuttle looked very mobile and was showing his range and ability to pass out of the pocket.Â
- Derrick Vickers took some snaps at running back today.Â
- Tyler Huntley linked up for multiple touchdowns today, including a 15-yarder to Bryan Thompson and a 20-yard pass to Jake Jackson.Â
