Learn more about incoming freshman Grace McLaughlin in the latest of our newcomer "Getting to Know U" series. McLaughlin, who hails from Rockford, Ill., is in her first season with the Utah cross country squad.
Q: What about Utah stood out to you during the recruiting process?
A: The view of the mountains. Also, the team is like a family and I really like that about the program.
Q: What is the main reason you chose to attend Utah?
A: Definitely the location. The other schools I was looking at were really close to home and it felt to safe for me. I really wanted to go out and have an adventure so Utah seemed like the perfect fit.
Q: What's is your favorite thing about Salt Lake City?
A: I love that there is so much to do. I can go hiking, biking, go downtown, go to a fancy restaurant, and even go to a farmer's market. There are just endless possibilities and I have the perfect combination of mountains and city.
Q: If you were not running cross country/track for the U, what sport would you play?
A: I think I would be a swimmer. I swam a little bit when I was in middle school and some when I was injured.
Q: If you hosted a late night talk show, who would be your first guest?
A: I think it would have to be Amy Schumer.
Q: What is your favorite food? What food do you not like at all?
A: My favorite food is peanut butter and I hate spaghetti.
Q: What is your most used emoji?
A: Happy face with the bead of sweat falling down its face.
Q: What is your all-time favorite movie? TV show?
A: My all-time favorite movie is "Into the Wild" and my favorite TV show is "NCIS".
Q: What is the last book you read?
A: The last book I read was called "Stronger". It's a sports psychology book.
Q: If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?
A: Hair ties, because I have a lot of hair and I am always losing them.
