NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has ranked Utah's women's cross country team No. 24 in the nation, according to the latest rankings that were released today.
Utah, who is coming off a third-place finish at the Battle in Beantown this past Friday, is ranked among the top-30 teams in the nation for the first time since coming in at No. 27 back on Oct. 17, 2017. The Utes finished ahead of four top-20 ranked teams in last Friday's meet, which included then No. 11-ranked Providence, No. 22-ranked Syracuse, No. 24-ranked Minnesota, and No. 27-ranked Dartmouth.
The Utes, who earned 74 votes in this week's rankings, are now ranked ahead of three of those four squads. Minnesota came in just ahead of the Utes at No. 23 this week, while Providence dropped to No. 25 and Dartmouth fell one spot to No. 28. Syracuse dropped out of the top-30, but did receive votes in the poll.
Utah is one of six Pac-12 teams ranked in this week's national poll. Colorado leads the way coming in at No. 2, while Stanford (No. 3) and Oregon (No. 4) follow right behind the Buffs. Washington came in at No. 16 this week, while California collected a No. 21 ranking.
On Monday, Utah jumped two spots in the Mountain Region rankings, coming in at No. 5 this week. New Mexico, who ranks No. 1 in the latest national poll, also leads the pack in the Mountain Region. Colorado and BYU round out the top-three in the region, respectively.
Utah is off this week, but will be back in action again next week competing in the Steve T. Reeder Memorial, which will take place next Friday, Oct. 5, in Logan, Utah.
