Azat Hankuliyev, a junior from Salt Lake City, has been a key contributor for the Utes the past two seasons. Hankuliyev, who is originally from Turkmenistan, was Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention last season.
Q: Why did you choose to play tennis at Utah?
A: Great facilities and coaching staff.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a part of the Utah tennis program so far?
A: The friendships made on the team and being able to compete against the best in the Pac-12.
Q: When did you start playing tennis and what drew you to the sport?
A: I started playing when I was six. My mom signed up for group lessons and I have loved it ever since.
Q: Who have been your biggest influences in life on and off the court and why?
A: My father has been my biggest influencer because of how he has come to give his family a great life in U.S.
Q: What do you think is important in the balance between school and athletics?
A: The balance of finding the time to balance both. No matter what you have first in the day, you should always be striving to do your best.
Q: What have been some of the hardships in your career and how did you get past them?
A: Losing my father has definitely been the hardship in my career. It made me realize how lucky I was to be able to play tennis.
Q: What are you looking forward to most this season?
A: I am looking forward to having a great run in the Pac-12 and making the NCAA Championships.
Q: If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: It would be pizza, because you can choose different toppings.
Q: If someone made a movie about your life, what actor/actress would play you?
A:Â Ashton Kutcher.
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
A: Invisibility.
Q: If you could create a holiday, what would it be?
A: National iPhone Day.
Q: If you could live in any country, what would it be and why?
A:Â Spain because of the perfect beach and weather.
Q: If you could use three words to describe yourself, what would they be?
A: Sarcastic, outgoing, funny.
Q: If you had to delete every app on your phone but one, what app would you keep?
A: Twitter.
Q: If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
A: Invest my money and buy a lot of super-cars.
