BERKELEY, Calif. – The Utah Runnin' Utes managed to sweep its trip through the Bay Area for the first time since joining the Pac-12 Conference, following an 82-64 over the California Golden Bears Saturday evening at Haas Pavilion.
Utah, who defeated Stanford at Maples Pavilion earlier this week, registered its fourth straight win, while moving to 11-8 overall and 5-2 in the league. Cal dropped to 5-15 on the season and 0-8 in the conference standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Utah led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but Cal used an 11-3 run to pull within four points and trailed just 46-42 at the break. Senior
Sedrick Barefield took over though, scoring eight of Utah's first 12 points in the second half and the Utes never looked back on the way to the 18-point win.
Cal would go on a 7-2 run midway through the second half to get back within eight points, but freshman
Timmy Allen would go on a run of his own, scoring five of his 17 points and giving Utah a 15-point lead. Cal would score six of the next eight points, but Utah closed out the final two minutes with a 7-0 run.
Utah finished the game shooting .559 (33-59) from the field overall, which included a .419 (13-31) effort from downtown. Cal shot .424 (25-59) from the field in the game, but were out-rebounded by the Utes, 42-25. Utah would outscore the Bears 12-6 in second-chance points.
