From Cali to Texas My dad played at UCLA, so I've always been around the sport. Getting to go to games, getting to watch him, that was cool.
I lived in Long Beach, Calif. It was great out there. All of my family lives there and we would have a lot of gatherings and I would play around with my siblings.
I played running back for the Lakewood Huskies. Playing with the guys and being with the guys was always fun. I was running back all the way to when we moved to Texas for my mom's medical school.
We were in College Station for two years and Austin for two years. That was a big transition for me – going from Cali to Texas. I had no idea what Texas was going to be about, I thought it would be the stereotype that it has, but being there was definitely a good experience.
It was hard moving around to an extent. Getting used to and being acclimated to a new place is hard, but I just used it as a fresh start.
Being in sports it was hard, but you just go out there and prove yourself and I feel like I did. My dad always said to just go out there and do your best, show out – and that's what I did.
When we moved to Texas is when I switched to defensive back. My dad always pushed that you'll be able to play longer at defensive back because you won't be getting hit as much like at running back.
He got me acclimated to the position. I got used to it, and my confidence built up and got me to where I am today.
