Utes in the NFL: Week 8 Recap, Week 9 Preview

SALT LAKE CITY – Things are heating up as 10 former University of Utah football players head into week nine of the 2019 NFL regular season.
Mitch Wishnowsky and the San Francisco 49ers remain undefeated and have a one-game lead in the NFC West over Cody Barton and Marquise Blair in Seattle. Wishnowsky will get his first taste of Thursday Night Football as a pro tonight when the 49ers take on the Arizona Cardinals at 6:20 p.m. MT.

Seattle is staying in the hunt in the NFC West with the help of both Barton and Blair. Blair started his second game in a row in week eight, racking up a team-high and career-high 11 tackles along with a forced fumble. Barton continues to play an integral role on special teams, coming away with one tackle.
Despite the loss, Matt Gay finished Tampa Bay's game against Tennessee with nine points, knocking in field goals from 22, 24 and 48 yards.
The Utes had six players start for their respective teams in week eight, including Eric Weddle for the Los Angeles Rams. In his 13 years in the NFL, Weddle has started in 178 games of the 193 he has seen action in.
