The Utah men's golf program is in full swing this fall with tournament play, introducing new faces to the lineup. True freshman
Jesper von Reedtz has played in all three tournaments this fall.
He comes to Utah from Taby, Sweden, where he won the Swedish Teen Tour Elite #2 in 2018. He helped Sweden to a third place finish at the 2018 European Boys Team Championships while also winning the 2018 Capital Junior Open at Huvudstaden.
Starting early with golf..
"I was probably like 10 years old when me and my dad went to Nordea Masters currently named the Scandinavian Invitation. We were following Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson and a few others for the whole round. At that time, they were not as famous as they are now but at that time only a few spectators followed them so I got close enough to see cool golf really can be. After that, my view on Golf changed and here I am today trying to get to their level of playing."
Growing up in Sweden...
"My hometown is a suburb to the capital, Stockholm, and it is called Taby. It is quite a big city with a population of 70, 000. I was very close to all things. I was able to walk to both elementary school and to junior high. My home was only eight minutes away from the course, so everything is really close to each other. One of the better things that has happened is that we got a dog when I was 11 or so which has been nice to have and a great addition to the family."
His family influences...
"The support is just awesome from mom, dad and my sister both on and off the course. The kind of strict rules we have at home has made me such a great person. The way I act on and off the course is mostly cause of how it was earlier in my years and it feels like that has influenced me to become who I am today."
Who he takes after most...
"I would say my mom, not only because she understands me very well, but it also feels like I inherited her stubbornness and that has really helped me progress both in golf and the way I handle things with homework and other relevant things."
Loving golf...
"I have always loved the challenge of improving myself in all ways and golf is such an awesome sport that you can put in your own goals. Mostly you improve by finding out things on your own. I have played a few team sports and I can't find the same joy in doing those things because then you are dependent on others."
Becoming a college golfer...
"College golf was a dream starting from my freshman year in high school. Before that I wasn't really sure that golf would be the thing I spend all my free time on. In Sweden, the season is very short and only for about six months, so to be able to go to the states and not only be able to play almost all year somewhere, but also to see new and cool places during tournaments and to see new environments that other people live is great."
What's next...
"After my graduation I hope to continue my career in golf maybe to play on the Swedish tour and the Challenge Tour in Europe and go that way, or find a way here in the States to continue to compete."
Fun facts...
"My family and I got a turtle by one of our friends, they were actually moving to another country and couldn't bring their turtle so we thought it was a fun experience to take care of a turtle."
Why Utah...
"I visited a few others, but what got me to Utah was the quality of everything from school buildings, practice facilities and the Athletic Café. Also everyone on the team made a very good first impression to me and they were very friendly."
Playing golf at Utah...
"To be able to see new places and different golf courses compared to what I am used to in Sweden and Europe is nothing close to the courses I have played here so far, the experience is just great. To see what I have to improve in my game to be able to finish up high is a boost, and to still enjoy practicing every day and to find more motivation to do it even more."
