INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 9 ranked University of Utah cross country team is headed to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the third time in program history after the NCAA announced the field Saturday afternoon.
The field of 31 features seven teams from the loaded Mountain Regional where the Utes placed fifth this past Friday at Rose Park Golf Course. The field consists of 18 teams that were automatic qualifiers from the regionals and 13 at-large teams.
Poppy Tank led the U with a 12th-place finish in the 6k race with a mark of 20:19.4 while
Sarah Feeny came in right behind her with a time of 20:20.2 for 13th-place.
Bella Williams was the third Ute to finish in the top-25 and finished in 17th with a time of 20:27.1. Tank, Feeny and Williams all earned all-regions at the end of the meet.
Utah's two appearances at nationals came in 2015 and 2016. The Utes took 20th in their latest appearance and came in 26th in 2015 when they made their first appearance.
The National Championship is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course and hosted by Indiana State. The women's race is set to begin at 9:15 a.m. (MT). Admission to the event will be $10 per person (cash only).
