SALT LAKE CITY – The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has selected the George S. Eccles Tennis Center, home of the University of Utah tennis programs, to serve as the host of the 2020 Salt Lake Invitational ATP 100 Challenger. The largest professional tennis tournament to ever take place in Utah will be held Monday through Sunday, May 25-31. Prize money for the event will total $108,000.Â

Jason Weir-Smith, former ATP professional and current Director of Tennis at the Salt Lake Swim and Health Club, will function as the tournament director.
"It has been a goal to bring world-class tennis to Salt Lake City and it is extremely rewarding to see this come to fruition," said Jason Weir-Smith, the Salt Lake Invitational ATP 100 Challenger tournament founder and director. With the collaboration from the University of Utah, the ATP, and City of Salt Lake, fans will be able to watch world-class professional athletes compete in the great state of Utah for the first time in decades. The 2020 Salt Lake Invitational will feature men's singles and doubles draws, and will kick off the 2020 US Open Series. The US Open Series will eventually lead competitors to conclude the summer with the 2020 US Open in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

About the ATP Challenger Tour:
The Salt Lake Invitational ATP 100 Challenger will form part of the USTA Pro Circuit. The USTA Pro Circuit will feature approximately 100 tournaments in 2020, offering over $4 million in prize money. Competitors on the ATP Challenger Tour are athletes aspiring to compete on the world's biggest stages and the challengers serve as a stepping-stone for the future stars of tennis. Successful athletes on the ATP Challenger Tour earn ranking points to become eligible for qualifying or main draws at ATP Tour events.
