The Utes have only faced off against Marquette once since
Roeland Brateanu took over the program, losing to the Golden Eagles in 2016-17. Utah and the Grizzlies have matched up every year during Brateanu's run as head coach, holding a 4-0 record during that time period.
The Utes are coming off another pair of wins this past Sunday, defeating New Mexico (4-2) and Idaho State (4-1) to improve to 8-3 overall this season.
The Utes had slow starts against both New Mexico and Idaho State, losing the doubles points in both, but quickly got to work in singles play.
Mathias Gavelin stayed undefeated in singles with his win on the No. 5 court against New Mexico with Hankuliyev winning both his matches that day on the No. 6 court.
Dan Little also continued his winning ways, defeating his third straight ranked opponent in No. 35 Rick Hernandez-Tong of New Mexico and then going on to beat Peter Trhac of Idaho State. Little improved to 7-3 in singles with his two wins, with three of his four wins coming against top-90 opponents.
David Micevski also came away from the day without a loss, beating Domonic West of New Mexico 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 and then coming away with a point against David Felix of Idaho State after Felix was forced to retire from the match.
Rounding out Utah's wins against the Lobos and the Tigers were
Slava Shainyan and
Russell Benkaim, who picked up a win each during the weekend on the No. 3 and No. 4 courts.
