SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah football nickel back Javelin K. Guidry has cemented himself as not only one of the fastest football players in the country, but one of the fastest athletes in the world after putting up blazing speeds on the indoor track this winter.
A former state 100-meter champion in the states of Texas and California, Guidry has posted the eighth-fastest time in the United States so far this year among professional and amateur runners in the 60-meter dash. His 6.59 best came in a surprise appearance as an unattached runner at the Washington Invitational in January. It is tied for the fastest 60-meter time by a collegiate football player this season with Anthony Schwartz from Auburn.
Guidry's victory at the UW Invitational qualified him for the USATF Indoor Championships held in Staten Island, N.Y., last weekend. He advanced to the 60-meter finals, finishing sixth overall and first among collegiate athletes at the meet, clocking a 6.75
Guidry, an honorable mention all-Pac-12 selection this past season, totaled 39 tackles and nine pass breakups.
His speed was well documented before coming to Utah. In addition to winning 100-meter championships in two states, he recorded the fastest all-conditions 100-meter time in California history in 2017 and later ran a 4.35-second 40 at The Opening Regional in Dallas in 2016.
