Utes Hit Back-to-Back Home Runs in Sixth Inning

SEATTLE, Wash. – Utah baseball dropped its opening game of the series against Washington 12-5 at Husky Ballpark in Seattle, Washington.

Facing a deficit, Utah scored four runs in the sixth with back-to-back home runs and then ended up bringing the tying runner to the plate in the seventh inning, but the Huskies held on to clinch the series opener.

Four Utes had multiple hits in the game. Erick Migueles led the way going 2-5 with three RBI on a three-run homer in the sixth. Oliver Dunn, Zack Moeller and Chase Fernlund were the other players with two hits.

Trailing 9-0, Utah needed a rally and got it going in the sixth. Briley Knight reached on an error and Zack Moeller singled leading to Migueles hitting his team-leading seventh homer of the season. Rykker Tom came up next and hit his first homer of the year for Utah to go back-to-back.

In the next inning, Utah loaded the bases and Tom drew a walk to push one more run across bringing the Utes within four at 9-5 and the tying run to the plate. Washington ended up getting out the jam to preserve their lead.

After getting out of the inning, the Huskies added three more insurance runs in the bottom half of the seventh, putting the game out of reach for Utah.

Nick Caviglia got his first career start and went 4.1 innings giving up eight runs on seven hits.

Utah and Washington will play the second game of the series on Saturday, May 11 at 3 p.m. MT.
