SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah men's tennis coach
Roeland Brateanu announced the signing of Geronimo Espin Busleiman to the 2019-20 roster today, joining doubles partner Franco Capalbo, who signed with Utah earlier this year.Â
At the time of Busleiman's commitment, he was the highest ATP ranked signee in program history. He joins Capalbo after the duo reached the semifinals of the Junior French Open in doubles and won the Grade 1 ITF in Canada leading up to the U.S. Open.Â
"We are very excited and honored to add Gero to our team for next year," Brateanu said. "This guy is the real deal and will help us compete in the Pac-12 and on the national stage."Â
Busleiman reached as high as No. 40 on the ITF Junior World Rankings, picking up wins over 2019 ITA No. 1 Nuno Borges of Mississippi State and 2018 No. 7 Patrick Kypson of Texas A&M. He has ranked as high as No. 704 in singles and No. 721 in doubles on the ATP World Tour.Â
The La Rioja, Argentina, native competed in his first Futures event in 2012 and has been in four Futures doubles finals and one singles finals since, ranking as high as No. 3 in Argentina in juniors play.Â
