Men's Tennis Lands Five On ITA Scholar-Athlete Team

TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Utah men's tennis team tied the program record for student-athletes named to the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, landing five players to the distinguished list for the second straight year.
Utah was also earned the ITA All-Academic Team award back-to-back years after posting a 3.36 cumulative GPA. To be eligible for the team award, all varsity letter winners are factored into the team GPA and the team must have a minimum 3.20 or above. Â
The men honored as a part of the scholar-athlete list for the 2018-19 season were seniors Dan Little, David Micevski and Joe Woolley along with junior Slava Shainyan and freshman Mathias Gavelin. Student-athletes on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list are required to be a varsity letter winner and have a GPA of 3.50.
Both Micevski and Shainyan are three-time selections while both Woolley and Little have earned the distinction twice. Shainyan is also a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic first-team honoree with Little and Micevski earning their third straight second-team honors this year. Â
On the court this season, Little ranked No. 1 overall in the ITA Mountain Region while finishing the year at the No. 45 spot in the final national ITA poll. He was named the ITA Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year after advancing to the NCAA Singles Championships.
Micevski ranked No. 93 in the final ITA poll and No. 3 in the Mountain Region while Shainyan finished ranked No. 16 in the region.
