SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah women's cross country team reported to campus for preseason camp this week. The Utes officially opened camp on Monday with a few team meetings, but the team will look to get things going on Tuesday as the team heads down to Herber City, Utah, to participate in their annual altitude camp training.
"We are really excited with camp opening up this week," said Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler. "This is our version of #CampKyle, but the cross country version rather than football. But seriously, super excited. We have a great group of kids coming back and we are very high on our freshmen coming in. We have a veteran group, with the likes of
Sarah Feeny and
Poppy Tank, but overall we think that we can be really good. Like everyone else in the country, you have to stay healthy and that is always a challenge. Plus, you have to run well at the right meets, on the right days. You have to get some certain things done but we are looking forward to that challenge."
Over the next week, Tuesday-Saturday, Aug. 13-17, the Utes will prepare for the upcoming season with its altitude camp, which will consist of various runs, strength work and team bonding themes.
"We will get up into the mountains this week and get some running in, along with some team building activities," said Kepler. "We will certainly have some fun along the way, but at the same time we will discuss some season goals and a few things we want to get done along the way. We can really kind of lay out a path moving forward. Then once we get back next weekend, we can set up a few training blocks and gear up for the season.
The Utes will return to campus Saturday morning and all of the cross country squad members will be in attendance for
2019 Utah Red Zone Fan Fest, which will take place at Rice-Eccles Stadium from 6-8 p.m.
Utah cross country will get the 2019 season underway on Saturday, Aug. 31, competing at the Utah Valley Invitational in Orem, Utah. For a complete 2019 season schedule, click
