SALT LAKE CITY - Another season of golf is upon us and after a fifth place Pac-12 Championship Tournament finish last season, the University of Utah men's golf team is looking to improve even more after their best finish in program history. With five upperclassmen returning who have all lettered, they will continue to build off last season's impressive resumes.
"Our upper classmen are poised to lead by example this season and are looking to help our program take a major step forward," head coach
Garrett Clegg said. "It should be a great year."
The loss of standout senior Kyler Dunkel to graduation is something the Utes will have to overcome this year, but the overall depth of this year's team will more than makes up for his departure. Senior
Jordan Costello competed in 11 of the 12 tournaments for the Utes last year while seniors
Mitchell Schow and
Peyton Hastings are looking to leave a major mark on the team.
Juniors
Tristan Mandur and
Blake Tomlinson both had a 73 strokes-per-round average that ranked in the top three on the team the previous season.
"My expectations are that our upperclassmen will lead this program," said Clegg.
