Consensus All-American broke Utah's Career Sacks Record in 2019
NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Utah senior defensive end Bradlee Anae finished his highly-decorated career as the Utes' all-time sacks leader in 2019, with his 13 sacks increasing his career total to 30. He was named first-team All-America by nearly every organization and claimed the prestigious Morris Trophy as the Pac-12's top defensive lineman.

Those honors made for a busy week of travel for Anae last week, including the Walter Camp All-America Weekend at Yale University Saturday night. Known as the Father of American Football, former Yale head football coach Walter Camp initiated in 1889 what remains to this day the oldest college football All-America team. The 130th edition, unveiled last month, included Anae as a first-team selection, with teammates Leki Fotu and Jaylon Johnson named second-team choices.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation carries on the tradition of the former Yale player and coach, who is credited with evolving the early game that resembled rugby to a more organized game by introducing the play from scrimmage, the numerical assessment of goals and ties, the restriction of play to 11 men per side, set plays, sequences and strategy. The Foundation operates year-round, but is most noted for its Walter Camp Weekend in New Haven each January, which includes hospital visits, stay-in-school rallies and a youth clinic among the highlights.
Anae, who is training in Florida, traveled Wednesday to Seattle for Thursday's Morris Trophy Luncheon, then took an early-morning flight Friday to New York, to arrive in New Haven by Friday evening. Saturday night's awards dinner, attended by nearly 1,000 guests at Yale's Payne Whitney gymnasium, honored the 2019 All-America class along with past All-Americans and special honorees for 2019.
Emcee Kevin Negandhi of ESPN introduced each All-American, including Anae, who was presented a plaque and answered several questions about his career, Utah Football and his upbringing in Hawaii. Anae also had the opportunity to meet and visit with Denver Broncos eight-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller, who was honored with the organization's Alumni Award, and former Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly. Other honorees included Man of the Year Curtis Martin, American Hero Award winner Keanon Lowe, Perseverance Award winner Rob Mendez and Distinguished American Award winner Chris Berman.
Anae's whirlwind week continued Sunday with a flight from Hartford to Mobile, Ala., where Senior Bowl preparations began. One of six Utes invited to the Senior Bowl, Anae joins teammates Terrell Burgess, Francis Bernard and Leki Fotu taking part this week for the North squad. Practices begin Tuesday and can be watched on NFL Network. The 2020 Senior Bowl will air live on NFL Network on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 12:30 p.m. MT.
