Â
One of the players expected to have a big impact this season while playing in the outfield is
Briley Knight. He played in 40 games during his freshman season while hitting .255 and had 17 RBI.
Â
He propelled that into a tremendous summer with the Corvallis Knights and was named the West Coast League's MVP after leading the league in on-base percentage (.460), slugging percentage (.621), total bases (113) and extra base hits (29). He finished second in the league in hitting .357 and RBI with 42 while knocking eight homers.

How's everything going so far?
Team practice has been great so far. Everyone's very close this year, and we've been working on forming a good culture. That's going to play a huge role this year and if we can keep getting closer as a team we can win a lot of ballgames. On the field, having Coach Henderson here is awesome and I can already tell a difference with our pitchers. On the hitting side, we're progressively getting better as well. It's great to be out here as a team, and we're excited for the season.
Â
What do you focus on when getting ready for the season?
I learn to not take anything for granted first off. I know I have a tremendous opportunity to play Division I baseball with a great group of guys. Obviously, the goal is to win games and the main thing I'm focusing on this year is the team culture, winning games and making sure everyone is having a great time.
Â
What are the team's goals heading into the year?
The main goal is to win. We want to make ourselves proud, make our coaches proud and more importantly make our fans proud. Utah is a great school and we want to represent it well. We all have a common goal and that's to show who we really are. We know we're good ballplayers and it's a matter of coming together as a team, fixing the small things and being fundamentally sound.
Â
On his great summer and how that carries into the season?
The biggest thing is confidence. I'm carrying a lot of confidence into this season after the summer. I now want to give my teammates as much confidence as possible where if you act like you're the man, then you'll be the man. If everyone has that mentality then we'll have great potential.
Â
What's your favorite part about baseball?
When it comes down to it at the end of the day, baseball is baseball. Winning games is fun and all, but it's about the relationships along the way. It's important to me knowing that those guys will have your back outside of baseball and that love transitions onto the field once you know it's there.
