CHICAGO, Ill. – University of Utah Football junior Devin Lloyd has been named a semifinalist for the 2020 Butkus Award, given to the nation's best linebackers at the collegiate and high school levels each year.
Lloyd is one of 16 semifinalists for the award and is the only representative from the Pac-12 on the list. Finalists for the award will be announced on Dec. 7, and winners will be announced on or before Dec. 22.
Selection for the award is handled by a panel of 51 coaches, recruiters, scouts and journalists. The award, which is in its 36th year, honors athletic achievement and service to the community.
The All-Pac-12 linebacker is leading the Utes in tackles through two games, recording a career-high 11 total tackles in both games this season. He is tied for second in the Pac-12 and 14th in the FBS in tackles per game (11.0) and is also tied for fifth in the Pac-12 and 14th in the FBS in solo tackles per game (6.0).
In 2019, Lloyd started all 14 games at rover linebacker and became the first sophomore since 2016 to lead the Utes in tackles (91.0). He was second on the team and tied for seventh in the Pac-12 with 6.5 sacks and was also ninth in the league in tackles for loss (11.0).
Lloyd has played in 30 career games with 16 starts. He has three double-digit tackle games as a Ute and has either led or tied for the lead in total tackles in seven career games.
The Butkus Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses college football's most prestigious awards.
