ST. GEORGE, Utah - The University of Utah men's golf team sent five players to compete as individuals in the Pat Hicks Invitational. The two round tournament was hosted by Southern Utah University and took place over two days Feb.10-11
th.
Redshirt Sophomore
Colton Tanner won the tournament shooting 6-under-par (138). He was able to emerge victorious after shooting 3-under-par in both round one and two. This is Tanners first tournament win as a Ute and his performance impressed his Head Coach
Garrett Clegg.
"I'm extremely happy for Colton," said Clegg. "To go out and win a college golf tournament is great. He's worked so hard on his game and to have him play well is a huge confidence builder."
True Freshmen
Javier Barcos tied for 11
th after shooting 1-over-par (145). Barcos shot 2-under par in round one (70) and 3-over-par (75) in round two. Redshirt Freshman
Dylan Chugg carded 2-over-par (146) to tie for 17
th amongst the field. Chugg shot 3-under-par (69) in round one and then 5-over-par (77) on the final 18 holes.
"Javier and Dylan played well for the 36 holes. I hope it will help them build confidence for the next time they have an opportunity to play," Clegg said.
Rounding out the Utes are two Seniors in
Peyton Hastings and
Jordan Costello. Hasting tied for 36
th after shooting 6-over-par (150) and Costello carded 7-over-par (151).
The Utes will be back in action Feb. 20
th at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate. The team will travel to Lihue, Hawaii in their first tournament of the new year.
