Lihue, Hawaii- The Utah men's golf team finished in a tie for 15
th after the second round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, today, moving up two spots after the first 18 holes.
The Utes shot 6-over par (294) as a team today, which was seven strokes better than their first round performance. The team is shooting 19-over par (595) after 36 holes overall.
"We started really well today, but that doesn't mean a whole lot if you can't finish the round," head coach
Garrett Clegg said. "We have one more day tomorrow and hopefully we can play better golf."
Leading the Utes is sophomore
Axel Einarsson, who shot 2-over par (74) today to pair with his round one score of 1-over par (73), which has tied him for 37
th overall (147).
Senior
Mitchell Schow was able to make strides on the second day of competition, climbing 38 spots on the leader board to tie for 51st. In the first round, Schow shot 5-over par (77) to tie for 89
th through 18 holes, but improved in the second round, shooting 1-under par (71) to give him a score of 148 through 36 holes.
Junior
Blake Tomlinson also made a big leap on the leader board, climbing 21 spots. Like Schow, Tomlinson was 5-over par (77) after round one, but shot even par (72) today in the second round to tie for 68
th among the field with a tournament score of 149.
Rounding out the tournament team is junior
Tristan Mandur and redshirt freshman
Oscar Maxfield. Mandur shot 3-over par (75) in round one and then 5-over par (77) in round two, giving him a total score of 152 to tie him for 88
th with Maxfield sitting in a tie for 113
th with a tournament score of 156.
Also playing in Lihue is true freshman
Jesper von Reedtz. He is competing on the course as an individual, tying for 88
th among the field after shooting 5-over par (77) in round one and 3-over (75) in round two for a tournament score of 152.
