SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah Men's Golf head coach
Garrett Clegg announced today the return of senior
Mitchell Schow for the 2020-21 season.
"It will be awesome to have Mitchell back," Clegg said. "He did a fantastic job as our team captain last season and had his best year as a member of our program in 2019-20. We are thrilled that he will be here for one more year to continue to help our program grow."
Even though his senior year was shortened due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Ogden, Utah, native shot a career-high 71.6 strokes per round, which ties for the program single-season record. In the seven events he competed in in 2019-20, he never finished outside the top-50, carding 13 rounds of par or better.
"With all of the crazy things going on in the world and all the unknown, I can't be more excited to come back and be a part of the team again," Schow said. "It has given me closure knowing I have a place to go and have a plan. The university is my home and I can't express how excited I am to have college and college golf for another year."
Schow had a breakout year as a junior as well, averaging 74.9 strokes per round while tying for 16
th nationally with seven eagles on the year, earning 2018 Utah Golf Association Men's Player of the Year. He even hit a hole-in-one at the Sonoran Showdown in the first round on a par 3 hole (209 yards).
Schow came to campus in 2016, immediately making an impact on the program by competing in all 13 events that year as a true freshman. He tied for the team lead with two top-10 performances in 2016-17, also tallying nine rounds of par-or-better as a sophomore in 2017-18 with a 73.5 strokes per round average that year.
