SALT LAKE CITY -Â The Utah men's tennis team landed five student-athletes on the ITA Scholar-Athlete team for the 2019-20 academic year, marking the third-straight year the team has tied the program record of five Utes earning academic honors from the ITA.
Collectively, the Utah men's tennis team earned an ITA All-Academic team award for the third-straight year after posting a 3.37 cumulative GPA. To be eligible for the team award, the team must have a GPA of 3.20 or above for the 2019-20 academic year.

Russell Benkaim and
Randy Cory, sophomore
Paul McCallie and freshman
Rian Ta. Student-Athletes on the ITA Scholar-Athlete team are required to have a GPA of 3.50 or above for the 2019-20 academic year and must be on the institutional eligibility form.
Shainyan earned his fourth selection as an ITA Scholar-Athlete to lead the group of Utes, while Benkaim, Cory, McCallie and Ta are all first-time selections.
Recent graduate from the University of Utah, Shainyan will return for an additional season with the Utes after a shortened senior season due to COVID-19. Shainyan posted a team-best 13-2 overall record in singles play, which included a 9-1 record at the No. 3 singles position. The four-year starter was also key in doubles action playing between the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
Cory and Benkaim finished the 2020 season as the nation's No. 37-ranked doubles team with a 12-4 overall record. Utah's top duo posted 11-straight wins from Jan. 31 to Feb. 29. Benkaim competed primarily in the No. 2 singles position, while also seeing action in the top singles spot.Â
