Jesper von Reedtz returns to the course for the Utes in 2020-21 after a standout freshman season, one which he will get back. As a true freshman, he saw action in six events in 2019-20, including a seventh-place finish at the Bandon Dunes Championship.
Q: What has been your favorite tournament to play in during your time at Utah and why?
A: I loved playing at the tournament at Bandon Dunes, the whole place was just awesome and something I have never seen before. On top of that, I played my best golf of last season there, which made it even better.
Q: What would you say you've improved on most from your first year to now?
A: I would say my improvement of the language has been big and really useful right now but also for the future. On the course I would say by playing far more than what I am used to have given me the opportunity to learn my game even better.
Q: What is your favorite part about playing at Utah?
A: My favorite thing about being a member of the team is that we always compete either in competitions or with each other, everyone wants to get better and we push each other in the right direction.
Q: What kinds of things did you do this summer during your time off?
A: Since it is a pandemic, it got natural to spend even more time on the golf course when it is easy to socially distance with everyone else. I have done a lot of practicing and playing with friends on the course. But also hanging out with friends and family outside of golf and enjoying the Swedish summer.
Q: What are some of your goals for this upcoming season when you get back on the course?
A: To earn a top-five individual spot in a tourney, and to win with the team is always the goal. More specific on the course would be to improve my putting during tournament play, I feel like if the putter gets better, I have better chances to shoot lower scores.
Q: What do you like most about playing for Coach Garrett Clegg and Coach Chance Cain?
A: They are both awesome and help me a lot. Mostly on the course during tournament play, before coming to the U. and the team I hadn't had much help during tournaments to reflect on specific shots and decisions, but with their knowledge and them being there it has helped me a ton. Both are really good at putting up great practice sessions and making them both difficult and capable of competing in, which makes it really fun.
Q: Why did you choose Utah?
A: When I got to Salt Lake City, I really liked the environment and all the mountains, the opportunity we have to play some really good golf courses that are close made it even better. The resources outside from golf was also a big factor all the help we get when we need it is great. Another great factor was the great tournaments and tournament fields we play in. As a golfer, you always want to compete with the best and I believe it is hard to find many better ones than what we play in during the season. It is such a great program and I believe it is only going to get better.
Q: What is it about golf that you love?
A: I really love the grind and the opportunity you have to always get better, there is always something that you see somebody else do or a weakness you have that you can improve on. Also, that there is a billion of ways to play a golf course and there is never that you play a round of golf exactly the same the next time, even if there are times you really just want to hit copy and paste.
Q: What are some of your hobbies outside of golf?
A: I like to ski and have done so a lot in Sweden during winter. Haven't skied yet in Park City but I am planning on doing it!
Q: Who is your favorite player professional golfer and why?
A: Actually, don't really have a favorite player on tour, I find inspiration in many of the guys and mostly impressed of how everyone knows their own game so well. But if I have to say someone it might be Rory McIlroy. The way he plays when he gets it going is really impressive.
Q: If you could go pro in a different sport, what sport would it be and why?
A: It would be Floorball, which is a big sport in Sweden and Finland. Played it a lot when I was younger before I quit to be able to play more golf. I had a good shot and my ability to see the game was decent.
Q: What is your go-to club in your bag and why?
A: My go-to club is the driver. I don't hit it very far, but I am really confident in finding the fairway and it feels really natural. I like to shape it too with different shapes and heights.
