Lloyd Named Rose Bowl Game Pac-12 Player of the Week

Junior had eight tackles and a career-high three sacks in comeback win vs. No. 18 Arizona State
PASADENA, Calif. – University of Utah junior linebacker Devin Lloyd has been named the Rose Bowl Game Pac-12 Player of the Week, the Tournament of Roses and the Rose Bowl Game Football Committee announced on Monday afternoon. Lloyd anchored the linebacking corps and greater defense this past Saturday in a 35-21 comeback win over No. 18 Arizona State.
Playing in front of a sellout crowd at Rice-Eccles Stadium, Lloyd's eight tackles were a game-high, including four TFL (24 yards) and a career-high three sacks (19 yards). He also had a pass breakup on the night. Lloyd's four TFL tied a career-best, was the most by a Ute this season and tied for the most by a Pac-12 player this year.

It was a resilient display for the Utes, who entered the halftime locker room trailing 21-7, before a lockdown defensive effort earned a second half shutout and held ASU to 97 yards of offense the rest of the way. That netted two punts, a blocked field goal and three straight sacks to end the ballgame—the first by freshman Junior Tafuna and the final two from Lloyd.

The native of Chula Vista, California, ranks second in the Pac-12 and is No. 6 in FBS with 10.2 tackles per game. The Preseason All-American has had no fewer than eight stops each game this season and has 10.5 TFL in Utah's last four games.

The Utes (4-2, 3-0 Pac-12) are currently in preparation for a Saturday, Oct. 23 Pac-12 game at Oregon State. It'll be a 5:30 p.m. MT kick in Corvallis, Oregon and will air on Pac-12 Networks.
