Lloyd Named Semifinalist For Walter Camp Player of the Year Award

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – University of Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd has been named a semifinalist for the 2021 Walter Camp Player of the Year award, it was announced today by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
The Walter Camp award is the fourth-oldest college football award in the nation. Lloyd is one of 15 student-athletes from around the country named as "Players to Watch" for the award with the Chula Vista, Calif., native being one of four defensive players on the list.
Lloyd, who is also a finalist for the Butkus and Chuck Bednarik awards, enters this week as the No. 3 rated linebacker according to Pro Football Focus (90.3). He currently leads the FBS in total tackles for loss (19.00) and tackles for loss per game (2.0), leading the Pac-12 and ranking 19th in the FBS in sacks (7.0).
He has a team high 80 tackles this season, averaging 8.9 per game, which ranks third in the league. He has three double-digit tackle games this season and has had seven or more tackles in eight of Utah's nine games this season.
The junior opened the season with three straight games of 10+ tackles, including back-to-back games with career highs of 13 (at BYU, at SDSU). Out of Utah's nine games this season, he has also had at least 2.0 tackles for loss.
In Utah's most recent win, Lloyd was unstoppable with nine tackles that included a career high 5.0 tackles for loss against Stanford. He also grabbed his second career pick-six with a SportsCenter Top 10 worthy interception for a touchdown.
Lloyd and the Utes are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Arizona Wildcats for their final regular season road game. The game is set for a 12 p.m. MT kick on Pac-12 Networks.
