Utah wide receiver and return specialist among nation’s top performers on field and in classroom
AUSTIN, Texas – University of Utah wide receiver and return specialist Britain Covey has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Team, it was announced on Thursday. It is Covey's third Academic All-District selection, previously being tabbed in 2018 and '20.

Recognized as one of the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the football field and in the classroom, Covey now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in December.

A native of Provo, Utah, Covey completed his business degree in Summer 2021 with a 3.86 grade-point average. In addition to his previous All-District mentions, he was also named Academic All-America following the 2020 season.

He is a four-time All-Pac-12 selection, including three as a returner and First Team honors in 2018 and '20. The 2021 Paul Hornung Watch List member, Preseason All-American and Preseason All-Pac-12 pick leads active players in the league with 168 career receptions, and this season shares the Utah team lead with 36 catches. Covey is also the only active wide receiver in FBS with over 1,500 career receiving yards and 600 career punt return yards.

As a returner, Covey continues to rank among the top in the country as well as Utah history. He is averaging 14.7 yards per punt return, leading the Pac-12 and No. 3 in the FBS. It includes an 80-yard runback for a touchdown at San Diego State (Sept. 18), the second-longest punt return in the Pac-12 this season. His 959 career punt return yards are the most in program history, and he sits second in the Utes record book with 83 career punt returns.

A testament to his receiving and returning prowess, Covey owns 3,539 career all-purpose yards which ranks fifth at Utah.
Beyond CoSIDA, his previous academic laurels include Pac-12 All-Academic and Academic Honor Roll (2018, '19, '20), six appearances on the University of Utah Dean's List, and seven career Athletic Director's Honor Roll awards.
