CHICAGO – For the second straight year, Utah Football linebacker Devin Lloyd has been named a finalist for the Butkus Award, the Butkus Foundation announced today.
The 37th annual Butkus Award will honor the nation's best collegiate linebacker with Lloyd being named one of six finalists. A panel of coaches, recruiters, scouts and journalists will vote for the winner, which will be announced on or before Dec. 7.
The preseason All-American is also a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year award after earning midseason All-America honors from five different outlets. Lloyd is the No. 3 rated linebacker in the country according to Pro Football Focus, ranking No. 2 in the nation with 21.0 tackles for loss this season.
The Chula Vista, Calif., native is the only FBS player this season with over 14.0 tackles for loss and multiple interceptions. He has had at least one tackle for loss in 17 of his last 19 games, ranking fourth in Utah history in career tackles for loss (42.0).
He also ranks third in the Pac-12 in tackles per game (8.2) and is second in total sacks (7.0). He has recorded at least one sack in five games this season, including his season high 2.0 against Arizona State, which came on the last drive of the game to seal the win over the then-No. 18 ranked Sun Devils.
He has had eight games this season with seven or more tackles, including three double-digit tackle games to start the season. He tied his career high in total tackles against BYU and San Diego State, racking up 13 in each game along with 2.5 tackles for loss against the Aztecs.
He has five games this season with two or more tackles for loss, including his career high of 5.0 at Stanford. The 5.0 tackles for loss ties for fourth all-time at Utah in single-game TFLs and is the third-most in the FBS this season (first in the Pac-12).
Lloyd and the Utes will return to Rice-Eccles Stadium one last time on Friday, Nov. 26 when they host the Colorado Buffaloes for Senior Day. The game is set for a 2 p.m. MT kick on FOX.
