SAN FRANCISCO – Utah men's tennis freshman
Franco Capalbo has earned Pac-12 All-Conference honors the conference announced today, claiming a spot on the honorable mention team.
Capalbo had a stellar season for the Utes, recording the best win percentage in singles and doubles play. Capalbo posted a phenomenal 15-6 overall record this season, which included a 4-0 mark in regular season conference play. Capalbo played primarily between the top two courts and finished the year at court one.
He recorded three wins over ranked opponents – then No. 65-ranked Jack Davis (Washington), No. 92 Nathan Ponwith (Arizona State) and No. 63 Jonas Ziverts (Arizona) – to highlight his singles play. Capalbo picked up nine singles wins on court one and six on court two.
In doubles action, Capalbo posted the second-most wins on the team with 12 victories this season. He went 8-4 on court one with partner
Geronimo Busleiman, and ended the season with four wins on court two with
Luis Flores. He and Busleiman picked up a win early on in the season over the nation's then No. 42-ranked pair from Denver. Capalbo and Flores ended the season on a three-match winning streak with wins over San Francisco BYU and Oregon on court two.
Capalbo's honorable mention honor becomes Utah's 11th Pac-12 All-Conference award, joining former Utes David Micevski (2016, 2017, 2019), Dan Little (2017, 2018, 2019), Matt Cowley (2016) and Slim Hamza (2012, 2013, 2014).
