POCATELLO, Idaho – The Utah men's tennis team wrapped up the second day of the Bengal Invitational as freshman
Berk Bugarikj looked to advance to the finals in the singles main draw.Â

Burgarikj matched up with Valentino De Pellegrin of Idaho State in his first singles match of the day. Facing the fifth-seeded player, Burgarikj won his first set 7-5 and second set 6-4 to move to the semifinals.Â

Burgarikj had a close first set in the semifinals with Gustav Thielgaard of Montana. The first set would go to a tiebreaker, but Bugarikj would come up short, 7-6 (5). Bugarikj would end up falling in the semifinals, 7-6 (5) and 6-2.Â

In the consolation singles draw, Dylan Applegate matched up with JW Altman, and Applegate came away with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. Against Alex Asenov, Applegate took the first set, 7-5. However, Asenov ended with the second set win, 6-2, forcing a 10-point tiebreak. Applegate won the tiebreaker 10-5, advancing to the consolation finals on Sunday.Â

Rian Ta of Utah faced Asenov in the consolation semifinals and won the first set 6-1. However, he dropped set two, 6-2. In the tiebreaker, Ta was defeated 10-8.Â

Geremia Rossi faced Wikus Robbertse of Idaho State on Saturday and was defeated 6-4, 7-6 (4).Â

In doubles action, Ta and Rossi defeated Adam Taylor and Alejandro Salvado 8-1, advancing to the consolation semifinals. Bugarikj and Applegate were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Ethan Lye and Robbertse, 8-6.Â

Utah returns to action on Sunday for the final day of the Bengal Invitational.Â
