Mohamoud Diabate Named To Butkus Award Watch List

CHICAGO – University of Utah linebacker Mohamoud Diabate has been named to the 2022 Butkus Award Watch List, announced today for an award that honors the nation's best linebacker.
The watch list is comprised of 51 linebackers from 43 schools with semifinalists being picked on Oct. 31 with the finalists being named on Nov. 21. The winner will be named on or before Dec. 7 and will be honored on Jan. 21, 2023 during a televised event by CBS Sports Network.
Diabate, who transferred to Utah in the spring of 2022, played in 37 games with 17 starts at Florida from 2019-21. He recorded 176 total tackles (14.0 TFL, 6.0 sacks) during his time with the Gators, adding three forced fumbles, two pass breakups and an interception.
In his final season with Florida in 2021, the Auburn, Ala., native racked up 89 tackles (2.5 TFL) with four quarterback hurries. He had two 10+ tackle games in 2021, recording a career-best 12 against South Carolina, also contributing 11 stops against Kentucky.
In 2020 he finished with 69 tackles (7.0 TFL, 1.5 sacks), two forced fumbles, five quarterback hurries, a pass breakup and an interception. He had another set of 10+ tackle games, including 11 against Ole Miss and 10 vs. Arkansas, also recording his first-career interception against Kentucky.
As a true freshman, Diabate came away with 18 tackles (4.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks), finishing with a career-best 3.0 TFL (all sacks) against Vanderbilt to earn SEC Freshman of the Week.
