Utah football student-athletes use new landscape to give back to their community
SALT LAKE CITY – Change has been rapid in the last several years across the student-athlete experience and greater college athletics landscape, perhaps none more evident than the advent of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) in Summer 2021.

For just over a year, student-athletes nationwide have been able to monetize this new space outside of competition. Within the guidelines of NCAA rules, various Utes have set up everything from apparel deals to their own podcasts and public appearances.

What's unique, though, is how members of the program have used their NIL to make an impact across the Salt Lake community.
Â
Take, for example, OBlock Cares. Launched by members of the offensive line, the group has spearheaded projects such as the Sunday Supper—a partnership with Utah Foster Care to feed children and families in need. It carries forward a similar event that was led by former offensive lineman Nick Ford during the 2021 football season.

In June, OBlock Cares also teamed up for Adoption Day—a joint effort between student-athletes, the Humane Society of Utah and The Zone Sports Network—all in the spirit of promoting animal adoption.

Opportunities are abound for individuals and organizations to connect with Utah student-athletes in the NIL world. In Summer 2022, Utah Athletics debuted the Elevate U Exchange—a centralized NIL business registry, custom-designed for businesses, donors, alumni, and any others interested in connecting with Utah student-athletes for NIL opportunities.

Time is ticking down as Utah prepares to head to The Swamp in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday, Sept. 3 to take on the Florida Gators. The game will air at 5 p.m. MT on ESPN.
