Jonah Elliss Named To The Lombardi Award 2023 Midseason Watch List

HOUSTON – Utah Football defensive end Jonah Elliss has been named to The Lombardi Award 2023 Midseason Watch List with the award going annually to the college football offensive or defensive lineman who exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi.
Elliss is one of 100 payers from 10 FBS conferences and several independents on the midseason list, including being one of 13 from the Pac-12. Through six games, Elliss has recorded 29.0 total tackles, including a team-high 13.0 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks while also adding a pass breakup, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.
He is currently leading the FBS in total sacks (9.0) and is tied for the lead in total tackles for loss (13.0). His 29 tackles this season also leads all Power Five defensive ends and ranks fourth among all FBS defensive ends.
In the last three games, Elliss is averaging 6.6 tackles, grabbing a career-high 10 stops with 5.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in Utah's win over UCLA. His 5.0 tackles for loss against the Bruins ties for the fourth-most in program history with his 3.5 sacks ranking eighth all-time.
He earned back-to-back Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for his performances against UCLA and Oregon State with Elliss racking up six tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks vs. the Beavers. The Moscow, Idaho, native has three games this season with two-or-more sacks and four games with two-or-more tackles for loss.
He has played in 30 career games with 13 starts after making the switch from linebacker to defensive end in 2022.
