SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Football defensive end
Jonah Elliss has received national praise this week as the Utes head into the second half of its season, earning spots on midseason All-America teams along with midseason watch lists.
Elliss has been named to the Sporting News, AP and The Athletic Midseason All-America teams while also earning spots on the Lombardi Award and Chuck Bednarik Award Watch Lists. He also earned ESPN Midseason All-America honorable mention and was named a quarterfinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy.
He is leading all Utah defensive linemen in total tackles (29.0) with the number also ranking first among all Power Five defensive ends.
He leads the FBS in sacks (9.0) and is tied for the lead in tackles for loss (13.0) with both totals being helped by his career-high day in Utah's win over UCLA. The Moscow, Idaho, native had a career-high nine stops with 5.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, which are tied for fourth and eighth in program history.
In the last three games, Elliss has averaged 6.6 tackles, earning back-to-back Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for his performances against the Bruins and Oregon State. He has had three games with two-or-more sacks and four games with two-or-more tackles for loss, including his 2.5 TFLs against the Beavers that included 1.5 sacks.
He has played in 30 career games with 13 starts after making the switch from linebacker to defensive end in 2022.
