Utah Closes Out Fall Slate at LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Utah men's tennis team wrapped up the fall slate this weekend at the LMU Invitational. The modified round Robin format tournament saw competition from LMU, Utah, UC Irvine, and Denver.

On the first day of play the Utes dominated doubles play as they claimed victories in all three matches against the Lions. On court one, Jayson and Michael Blando defeated LMU's Toky Ranaivo and Arthur Pantino 6-3. Dylan Applegate and Bruno Krenn also downed host-duo Darius Tamaddon and Inig Diaz Ibarguengoitia 6-2. Lastly, Gianluca Citadini and Geremia Rossi took the upper hand in a close 7-6(3) match with Yassine Smiej and Alex Padro Parra.

The squad met some difficult competitors as they moved into singles play against the UC Irvine Anteaters. On court one, Krenn fell 6-4, 6-3 to Hiroki Sakagawa. On court two, J. Blando defeated Noah Zamora in a tough three-set match, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Applegate had a 7-6, 6-2 match on court three. Rossi was also downed 6-2, 6-3. Citadini faced Andy Nguyen and dropped a similar 6-2, 6-3 match. M. Blando faced Lawee Sharif, resulting in a 6-3, 6-1 upset favoring the Anteaters.

The Utes were unable to find success during the second day of play. On the final day of competition, the squad claimed two more wins. Applegate and Krenn defeated UCI's duo on court two, fishing 6-3. On court one, Bruno Krenn defeated Denver's Anish Sriniketh in an impressive three-set stretch for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 win.

The Utah men's tennis team prepares for the spring season, set to begin on Jan. 20 with a home match against Weber State.
