LAS VEGAS – The University of Utah women's basketball's trip to the Pac-12 tournament was cut short as the Utes fell 66-58 to Washington State University.
Utah and Washington State started the game out matching each other. With just 10 seconds left in the first quarter Gianna Kneepkens hit a three ball to give the Utes a 16-13 lead.
The Utes went on a 6-0 run to start the second quarter with some momentum. As the first half ended, Utah had a 30-26 lead.
Washington State captured some momentum later in the third quarter thanks to a 14-0 run to take a 53-41 lead over Utah going into the final quarter of play.
The Cougs pressed on for a 14 point lead at one point in the fourth quarter but Utah made a surge in the final minutes of the game with a 7-1 run to bring the score within three. The Utes couldn't pull out the win and Washington State walked away with the 66-58 victory over Utah.
LEADERS Utah had two Utes score in double figures and were led by Gianna Kneepkens who had 18 points going 5-12 from the field including four made from beyond the arc. Alissa Pili had 11 points including 5-5 from the free throw line.
Teya Sidberry led the Utes with five rebounds and three steals. Sidberry and Dasia Young added seven points for the Utes.
COMPARISON Utah ended the game shooting 38 percent from the field, 25 percent from beyond the arc, and 81 percent from the free throw line.
WSU shot 45 percent from the field, 46 percent from the three and 67 percent from the free throw line.
Utah scored 24 points off turnovers and 22 points off the paint compared to Washington State who had 15 points off turnovers and 10 points off the bench.
UP NEXT The AP third ranked Utes will now await Selection Sunday on March 12 to see where they will be placed in the NCAA March Madness Bracket.
