The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced the Top 4 finalists for the 2023 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year award. Head Coach Lynne Roberts has been named as one of the finalists.
Roberts is the only coach in the Pac-12 in the top finalists. She is in her eighth season at the helm of the Utes and has a 140-103 record. She has recorded back-to-back 20 win seasons after leading Utah to a 21-12 record and to the NCAA 2nd Round during 2021-22.
She's led No. 8 ranked Utah to its first Pac-12 regular season title in school history. The Utes have a 27-4 overall record so far this season and a 15-4 Pac-12 finish. She has led the Utes to the third Sweet 16 Appearance in school history. Utah has been ranked in the top five on two separate occasions this season for Utah's highest rankings. Utah has been ranked for 18 weeks this season including 12 consecutive weeks ranked in the top 10.
Utah is currently in the top 10 nationally in five major statistical categories.
- No. 4 field-goal percentage (48.7)
- No. 8 scoring margin (+17.5)
- No. 3 in scoring (83.5)
- No. 6 in assists per game (18.5)
- No. 5 in free throws per game (16.5)
Utah started the season with a 14-0 record and remained undefeated at home with a 16-0 record.
Utah has posted a 6-3 record over Top 25 ranked teams this season including an 84-78 win over then No. 3 Stanford. This is the highest ranked team Utah has beaten in school history.
The four finalists for each category were chosen by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's national voting academy, comprised of leading journalists from around the country, current and former head coaches, former award winners and conference commissioners, all of whom base their selections on outstanding coaching performances during the 2022-23 college basketball season. The vote was tabulated and verified by the Atlanta team of J.S. Held, a global consulting firm.
Fans will once again be able to support their favorite finalist through the Naismith Awards Fan Vote presented by Jersey Mike's, which runs Tuesday, March 21, through Tuesday, March 28, at naimsithfanvote.com. The fan vote will account for five percent of the overall final vote. Fans may also vote by visiting the @MarchMadness and @MarchMadnessWBB Twitter pages to vote for their favorite men's and women's coach.
The 2023 Werner Ladder Naismith Trophy for Women's Coach of the Year will be awarded on Wednesday, March 29, at a press conference at Reunion Tower in Dallas during the Women's Final Four.?The 2023 Werner Ladder Naismith Trophy for Men's College Coach of the Year announcement will take place on Sunday, April 2, at the Naismith Awards Brunch presented by Frost Bank during the Final Four in Houston.? The event will be held at the Ballroom at Bayou Place.??
